DUBAI:\u00a0Arab films and filmmakers won a range of awards at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sudanese film \u201cGoodbye Julia\u201d by filmmaker Mohamed Kordofani won the Freedom Prize, while \u201cLes Meutes\u201d by Moroccan filmmaker Kamal Lazrek won the Jury\u2019s Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin Scorsese debuted his Osage murder epic \u201cKillers of the Flower Moon,\u201d a sprawling vision of American exploitation with Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone. \u201cIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,\u201d Harrison Ford\u2019s Indy farewell, launched with a tribute to Ford. Wes Anderson premiered \u201cAsteroid City.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The festival opened on a note of controversy. \u201cJeanne du Barry,\u201d a period drama co-starring Johnny Depp as Louis XV, played as the opening night\u2019s film. The premiere marked Depp\u2019s highest profile appearance since the conclusion of his explosive trial last year with ex-wife Amber Heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
