UAE to host inaugural Gulf Youth Games in April 2024

Muscat: UAE will host the inaugural edition of the Gulf Youth Games next year following a decision taken on Sunday during the 97th meeting of the Executive Office of GCC National Olympic Committee’s (NOCs) Secretaries-General in Muscat.

The first Gulf Youth Games will be hosted in Dubai in April 2024 after the event, initially scheduled in December 2023, was postponed.

Sunday’s meeting was chaired by Taha Al Kishry, Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) secretary-general and chairman for this term of the meeting in presence of Eng. Abdullah bin Ali Al Rabai, Head of Human and Environmental  Affairs Cluster at the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and other GCC members.

The proposed disciplines for the Gulf Youth Games in UAE will include football, futsal, 3X3 basketball, handball, ice hockey, volleyball, swimming, table tennis, athletics, shooting, fencing, cycling, badminton, sailing, padel tennis, chess, snooker, billiards, E-Games, judo, karate, taekwondo and jiu jitsu.

In his address, Al Kishry  congratulated all the Gulf athletes who won medals during the 2023 Arab Sports Games in Algeria and the recent 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. “The Gulf athletes had shown good performance during the latest regional, continental and international sporting events. We are looking for more medals and achievements during the forthcoming events including Olympic Games in Paris 2024,” he said.

Al Rabai in his speech appreciated the cooperation and interest from all the members towards supporting the process of joint work and to enhance and develop cooperation in the sports field.

The executive committee approved the proposals raised by the Advisory Committee for Sports of the Women’s Committee on
Saturday. The 35th meeting of GCC NOCs Heads will be held in Muscat on Monday.
