South Africa beat England by 229 runs

Mumbai: An all-round show by South Africa helped them beat England by 229 runs in ODI 20 of the ongoing World Cup 2023 in Mumbai on Saturday. South Africa batting first piled a massive 399/7 in 50 overs, whereas England could only manage 170/9 in 22 overs as Reece Topley didn’t walk out to bat due to injury.

Meanwhile, after producing a strong show with the bat, Marco Jansen led South Africa’s charge with the ball. He scalped two wickets, while Lungi Ngidi picked one as England were reduced to 24/3 in the gigantic 400-run chase. Kagiso Rabada then piled more miseries as he removed Ben Stokes for 5(8). Gerald Coetzee then joined the party as he removed Jos Buttler and Harry Brook in the same over. Coetzee added a third wicket to his tally by removing Adil Rashid for 10(14). Ngidi then packed Willey for run-a-ball 12 as England have reached the 100-run mark.

Earlier, Henrich Klaasen’s stunning century took South Africa to 399/7 in 50 overs. Klaasen smacked 109 runs off 67 balls, including 12 fours and four sixes. The middle order batter reached his ton in 61 balls. Meanwhile, Marco Jansen got an unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 42 balls. Apart from the duo, opener Reeza Hendricks chipped in with a solid 85(75) before getting out to Adil Rashid. Rassie van der Dussen also completed his half-century, while stand-in skipper Aiden Markram contributed 42 in 44 balls.
